We get asked this all the time!! The very general age many children are ready for toilet training is between 2-3 years, however at The Independence Hub, we believe that your child showing signs they are ready is more important than age. Some children may not show these signs of readiness until a bit later. We are all different!
Some signs your child is ready for toilet training:
- Able to stay dry for 2-3 hours at time or has a dry nappy after a day nap. (This tells us that their bladder control muscles are developing)
- Squats down or moves to a more private area when going? (Shows us they have more awareness of their body functions)
- Indicates they have a dirty nappy. For example, tells you, points to their nappy, pulls at or removes nappy.
- They are interested in the toilet or tells you they want to try wearing underwear
If your child is able to complete 1-2 of these, they are ready to start potty or toilet training!
